Mark 4:35-41 New King James Version (NKJV) On the same day, when evening had come, Jesus said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” Now when they had left the multitude, they took Jesus along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with them. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But Jesus was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Jesus and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Then Jesus arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But Jesus said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”
You don’t have to know the outcome of a situation for us to have peace. You can have peace in the middle of your situation, circumstances or wherever you find yourself today. Know the result doesn’t give you peace but knowing God has you, has a handle on your problems and is working things out for your good should give you peace.
- You don’t have to worry because He has you
- You don’t have to be afraid because He has every solution to any problem you will ever have
- You don’ have to be stressed over situations you can’t control because He is better equipped to deal with them
- You don’t have to be discouraged because He is for you and not against you
It’s not always about speaking to an outward storm but it’s about speaking to the storm that’s happening on the inside of you too. Those emotions that you feel internally can leave you feeling:
- Like there is a heavy rain of hopelessness falling on you
- Like there are winds of worry stirring in you
- Like there are clouds of chaos and confusion all around you
- Like you are in a thunderstorm of tears and sadness with no sunshine in sight going on within you
These are some of the emotions you can feel while in a storm but just as Jesus got up and spoke to the storm you can get up and speak to the storm going on inside of you. Because the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is the same power that lives on the inside you. So you can use that same power to speak to an external or an internal storm that you find yourself in and tell it Peace Be Still!
You can’t control the things that are going on in the world around you or the people in it, but you can control you. You can control how you feel and not allow your emotions to control you. If you notice that you don’t have peace at some point in your day, then you need to get your peace back.
How do you get peace, well the bible says in Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace, all who trust in God, and all whose thoughts are fixed on God! The first part to that scripture is I need to trust God, So when you trust God that means you rely on Him, you depend on God, you put your confidence in God, and you live from a place of expectancy for God’s promises to manifest then you know your trusting God. The second part is all whose thoughts are fixed on Him which means you’re constantly focused on God, you are concentrating more on God then the problems you see in front of me, you’re meditating continuously throughout the day on God’s word and His goodness so that your thoughts will be fixed on Him.
I love where it says in Psalm 29:11 (NLT) The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace. The peace that God gives belongs to you. So that makes God the ultimate owner and giver of His peace. You can’t have peace from God unless you get it from Him. He is the author and creator of peace. This world can only offer you counterfeit peace, that tries to imitate the peace that God can give you. John 14:27 says peace I leave with you: my [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. Let my perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge. There is nothing and no one in this earth that can give you peace like God can. And I want you to know today what it says in Philippians 4:7 (AMP) And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours]. The peace of God is yours, God wants to bless you with it and you don’t have to do anything to earn it. So come out of agreement with those negative emotions that produce negative thoughts by rebuking them and come into agreement with the peace that God says you can have and speak to your internal storm Peace Be Still.
I just want to speak a blessing over you – 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (TPT) Now, may the Lord himself, the Lord of peace, pour into you his peace in every circumstance and in every possible way.
